What about natural interactions?
Although the “seeing” part problems are largely solved, the “natural interactions” part problems remain largely unsolved. For natural 3D interactions in VR, the system needs to track the positions of user's head and hands. 3D interaction devices utilizing optical techniques (laser scanning, camera image processing, etc.) started entering into the market, but the optical devices suffer from occlusion issues, often demand a heavy computation, and most of all require complicated installations/maintenance. The complexity and heavy computation are particularly problematic for mobile virtual reality where mobility and simplicity are the key advantages.
AccuPS’ AeroWandTM provides solutions to the “natural interactions” part problems:
- No Need for Line-of-sight: AeroWandTM utilizes an electromagnetic signal that can penetrate most of hard materials, including human body, without distortion or attenuation, and consequently does not suffer from occlusion issues.
- No Heavy Computation: All computations are done in the AeroWandTM controller, and no additional computation for positioning is required on the paired computer side. The paired computer recognizes AeroWandTM as a standard HID device.
- No Wire: The 3D interaction device is fully untethered, making its installation and maintenance super easy. The user places one electromagnetic beacon generator powered by a battery on a desk or table, then the system is ready to go.
